Video Tutorial - How to Display Language Dependent Graphics and Content Pages



It is possible to display different banners in your front store according to which language your visitors have selected.

In the following example, we will assume the site has two languages; English and French.

If a customer selects English, Banner A will be displayed with a link to an English content page (News), and if a customer chooses French, Banner B will be displayed which links to a French content page (Nouvelles).

Below is how the English content page will look in admin:



And here is how the French content page will look in admin:


Let's say we want to display the banners below in the left column of your homepage with a link to the language relevant News content page:



Here's how to do it:

1. Go to : Website > Layout Manager

2. Scroll to the very bottom of the left column section in the Layout Manager and click 'Add Box'.

3. An Empty box will be displayed, click the Edit link.


4. In the Main Selection dropdown, select "COLUMN FREE TEXT".

5. Fill in the fields as below:

Enable : Yes
Label Name : langNewsTitle
Seq No. : 01 (You can change the sequence to your own liking)
Display with Box : No
Display Text : (leave empty)

Now click Save Changes.

6. Go to : Advanced Settings > International > Language > Edit Language

7. Click "Add a Record".

8. Fill in the fields :

lang : (enter the default language name e.g. English. This must match the default language name you have setup in your site.)
keyword: langNewsTitle
caption: <a href="shopcontent.asp?type=news"><img src="images/newsbannerenglish.jpg" alt="news" /></a>

Note : Make sure you have uploaded your banner to your site.

Click Add a Record .

9. Click Make Copy of Record.

10. Change only the lang to your other language name:

lang : (enter the other language name e.g. FRENCH. This must match the other language name you have setup in your site.)
keyword: langNewsTitle
caption: <a href="shopcontent.asp?type=news"><img src="images/newsbannerfrench.jpg" alt="nouvelles" /></a>
Note : Make sure you have uploaded your banner to your site.


Click Update record.

11. Click "Back To Languages"

12. Click "Reset Language"

13. Select your default language e.g. English , and click Continue. Do the same for the other language(s) you have set up (eg FRENCH).

Changes complete! You can now go and test in your front store.

Below is the preview of the "News" banner with default language in English. If we click the banner, it will take us to content page News in English.


And below is how it looks after switching the language to French:
